Evaluation of Mollusc as Sensitive Indicatior of Heavy Metal Pollution in Aquatic System: a Review
نویسندگان
چکیده
A The potential ecological effects of rising levels of heavy metals concentrations in the environment are of great concern due to their highly bioaccumulative nature, persistent behavior and higher toxicity. These chemicals biomagnify in the food chain and impose various toxic effects in aquatic organisms. Molluscs reflect the higher degree of environmental contamination by heavy metals and are the most useful bioindicator tools. Several studies and research work have been cited to establish and evaluate the relationship between metal contents of water column, sediment fractions, suspended matter and mollusc tissue concentrations. The metals body burden in molluscs may reflect the concentrations of metals in surrounding water and sediment, and may thus be an indication of quality of the surrounding environment. The objectives of this work are to gather more information on the use of different species of molluscs as cosmopolitan bioindicators for heavy metal pollution in aquatic

Review of Heavy Metal Accumulation in Aquatic Environment of Northern East Mediterrenean Sea Part II: Some Non-Essential Metals
Heavy metals that enter marine environment and remain in the water as well as the sediments are accumulated by aquatic organisms, thus becoming highly good indicators to monitor metal accumulation in the long run. Metals are potentially harmful to humans and most organisms at varied levels of exposure and absorption. Northern East Mediterranean Sea is a crucial region as it is an area, shared b...

متن کاملEvaluation of Some Physiochemical Parameters and Heavy Metal Contamination in Hara Biosphere Reserve, Iran, Using a New Pollution Index Approach
Background: The pollution of the aquatic environment with heavy metals has become a worldwide problem during recent years, due to their potential toxic effects and ability to bio-accumulate in aquatic ecosystems. Heavy metals are sensitive indicators for monitoring changes in the aquatic environment. Methods: In this study, total concentrations of Cr, Pb, Cu, Zn, and Fe were measured in water...

Abstract Heavy metals have raised one of the most important problems in ecology and organisms life especially human being and animals. A variety of indicators including tissues of fish, birds and sediment have been used recently to measure the aquatic pollution with heavy metals. The aim of this study was to search the published articles in Iran a...

Background & Aims of the Study: The current study was designed to determine the quality of sediments in Karun in Ahvaz, Iran, according to aquatic pollution indices. Materials and Methods: The sediment samples were obtained from six river stations in summer and winter. The sediment samples were air-dried, sifted, homogenized, and stored in plastic bags, and the concentrations of metals were...
